“Mar del Norte” is the album by Mexican double bassist, composer, and producer Rodrigo Mata. The works included in this album were created during his time in Norway in 2020 and 2021: seven for solo double bass, one for two double basses, and one for double bass and guitar. The duet pieces feature collaborations with two guest musicians: Daniel Guerra as guitarist and Jonathan Rivera as double bassist, while the rest of the pieces are performed by Rodrigo Mata himself. Each of these works showcases new technical ideas for the double bass and genuinely sincere musical expressions containing various elements that captivate the audience.

“Mar del Norte” represents that place that sheltered me and inspired me to create new music for double bass. “Mar del Norte” is the sound result of a laborious cycle of learning and knowledge of life.
